Q. What bar code standard does the welding industry follow?
A. GAWDA has endorsed the UPC standard for bar coding of hardgoods. This is the same as most MRO supply industries. In addition, GAWDA has endorsed use of the SCC Shipping Container 14 digit standard when items are sold by the each, yet distributed in packaged quantities. Both of these standards have also been endorsed by the Welding Equipment Manufacturers Committee (WEMCO) of the American Welding Society.
Q. Where can I find more information about bar coding?
A. The best source for bar code information is the Uniform Code Council's (UCC) website www.uc-council.org. The site contains a wealth of information, including the 14 digit SCC shipping container standard.
