Global Settlement Reached In Welding Fume Litigation in 2012
The steering committees for the parties in the Welding Fume MDL have reached a global settlement resolving nearly all welding fume cases pending in state or federal courts. The settlement is a substantial victory for the welding industry and will practically end welding fume litigation as a mass tort.

Tide Turns in Favor of Defendants in 2006 12/22/06 
2006 was a very good year. After being besieged with thousands of welding fume lawsuits over the past three years, 2006 brought a much welcomed change in momentum. The industry won all six welding fume cases tried to juries in 2006 (three in the MDL, three in state courts) bringing the total count to 16 wins and only one loss.

Nationweld Gap Coverage Deadline Approaching 12/01/06 
Last summer, NationWeld Risk Retention Group was given approval to begin offering coverage for welding fume claims to GAWDA members. Since 2004, few insurance companies have provided coverage for welding fume claims.

Jury Returns Another Defense Verdict In Second MDL Trial 11/30/06 
The jury in the second MDL trial returned another verdict for defendants. The Duke Power cases are the third and fourth verdicts won by the welding industry in November alone, and brings the win total to16 of 17 cases tried to juries.

Suit Alleges Injury From Fluoride Contained In Welding Fumes 11/29/06

A Wisconsin Workers’ Compensation Review Board upheld the denial of benefits to a widow who claimed that her husband died as a result of inhaling nickel fumes contained in welding fumes.

1/15/06 – Industry Wins Two Jury Trials In Hostile Territory On Same Day 
In a banner day for the welding industry, juries returned separate defense verdicts in two cases tried in plaintiff friendly jurisdictions.

10/02/06 – Trials Set to Begin in June in California Welding Fume Litigation 
An order entered Oct. 2 sets June, 2007 for first trial in the California coordinated welding fume litigation.

8/30/06 – Arkansas Jury Returns Verdict For Welding Industry  After deliberating less than twelve hours, a jury in three-week trial in the County Circuit Court in the city of El Dorado, Arkansas returned a general verdict in favor of the defendants.
